Linbro Demolition (UK) Ltd Carried out substantial demolition works for PCT Healthcare Trust Approximate contract value – £100,000
Manor College, Ashgate Rd, Chesterfield, was a 3 storey 1900’s school building, The school, latterly a college was a popular building in chesterfield because of its integral swimming pool where many Chesterfield residents first learnt to swim. The building was also under the watchful eye of Natural England who were exceptionally keen to ensure that bat life was not harmed in anyway.
Linbro provided support services to the ecologists and Natural England throughout the demolition process and also hand stripped areas of the roof, working with Natural England to ensure their requirements were met.
The demolition work consisted of stripping out the building contents and fittings. Asbestos tiles were found as well as one area of fibrous asbestos which necessitated quarantining. Linbros swift action prevented mass contamination ad saved considerable cost. Linbro managed the whole asbestos process well and reported on a twice daily basis with photographs giving piece of mind to the Employers and the Project Managers. Linbro also reported over the whole project on a weekly basis with specific updates when necessary. Demolition of the building frame was undertaken with a 27 metre hi reach demolition excavator. The excavation of all foundations and the crushing, backfilling and compaction of all voids to was carried out to “Brown Book Specification” with CBR Testing of the ground after compaction
The work was carried out competitively, safely, quickly, smoothly and without hassle, the work was carried out during the winter months under difficult working conditions where temperatures were below freezing much of the time
Health and Safety procedures were in place and the HSE during a brief unexpected visit confirmed that all health and safety aspects were in good order. Linbro provided site staff with training certificates to CPCS Standard along with onsite first aider personnel and asbestos awareness certificates to UKTA level.
Linbro proved to be knowledgeable and experienced in all of their activities and communicated well throughout. Their quality no hassle service was excellent and as CDM Coordinator and Project Manager for the above works I have no hesitation in recommending them to future employers.
